| He received about $10K a month in cash because of his family tree. He was really, really far removed from the choice part of the family but still, at 20 and in college in the U.S., he was wealthy. His parents only let him blow through about $5K of that a month, again cash, and made him save the remainder. Upon completion of college (bachelors degree) he was granted a ~$1M loan that he did not have to pay back. He was expected to follow the muslim way of life (he didn't) and end up marrying a muslim woman (not sure if he ever did). Besides the constant inflow of cash his parents were very wealthy and most of what he needed they provided. He drove a 300GT VR-4 here in the U.S. and would tell me how they exchanged jewelled belts worth hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars back in Qatar as part of their culture. They have a very different way of life than most of us do. I suspect when the oil dries up they'll come crashing down back to earth.
